Color Coding for the Disorganized
Kids that have difficulty with reading, concentrating, or organizing can all benefit from color coding. Work can be kept in colored folders according to subject, even using paper of the same color for any written work. Colored storage bins can be used to keep school supplies sorted, or a labeled colored strip can mark off portions of a book shelf for school books and supplies. Colored index cards can be used to organize words by parts of speech: nouns on blue, verbs on pink, adjectives on green, and adverbs on yellow for example. If kids have trouble with a portion of a word in spelling, they can highlight that portion, using color to aid their memory. There are phoneme and word cubes and cards available which use color to help kids build words and sentences.
